Dr. Steingraber’s keynote address for the 2014 meeting of the Seneca Lake Pure Waters Association on September 17, 2014 explores the ecology, geology, and natural history of Seneca Lake—and the toxicology of the threats posed to the lake region by the proposed plan to store compressed natural gas (methane) and liquefied petroleum gases (propane and butane) in abandoned salt caverns along the Seneca Lake shoreline. Steingraber was honored with the organization’s “Friend of Seneca Lake” award that same evening.  Watch the video

The groups of which I am part seek an acceleration of the transition to energy policies based on wind, water, and solar power and believe that further investments in fossil fuels in general—and shale gas in specific—are irrational, ruinously expensive, unsustainable, and immoral.” Steingraber presented a keynote speech for the New Environmentalism Summit of the European Commission in Brussels, Belgium.
